Via digg, un artículo interesante sobre el efecto nocivo de bajar películas y música por internet… sobre los vendedores de piratería. Una idea interesante, aunque no creo que se manifieste en países como México todavía debido a la conveniencia que todavía aporta la piratería en la calle (la mayoría de las personas no tienen acceso a la tecnología necesaria para bajar cosas o simplemente no tienen conocimiento de cómo hacerlo).
Acabo de ver The Prestige. Me gustó más que la primera vez, sobre todo porque seguí en la mente la historia tal como debe ser (la primera vez me confundí mucho porque no podía “dar crédito” a lo que pasaba, literalmente). Visualmente es hermosa, pero el fuego deja mucho que desear (cada que sale fuego, parece una fogata, no un incendio).
Seguramente tendrá un “nombre oficial” pero como no se mucho de bebidas lo llamé Tequila Sour: un caballito con jugo de medio limón, otro tanto de jarabe natural y otro de tequla.
Por cierto, parece que al fin he encontrado el bug que arruina la salida digital en Suse: tocar un DVD en Xine y matar el proceso desde la terminal con ctrl-c. Pude arreglar unas tres veces el problema si inmediatamente voy a yast y borro la tarjeta de sonido, y luego dejo que yast la configure nuevamente, automáticamente. Y *parece* (pero tengo que hacer más pruebas) que si uno mata xine con ctrl-c cuando esté tocando un DVD dos veces seguidas sin ir a yast, el problema no puede arreglarse.
In case someone suffers the same issues and searches for it in english: I’ve had trouble with my digital output in Suse for some time now (since Suse 10.0) and apparently I’ve found the cause. After a typical Suse install (minus xine), install libdvdcss, lib-xine (* with alsa enabled. You have to install alsa-devel) and xine-ui. Open xine from a terminal and configure the sound output to “passthrough”. It appears that xine-ui has trouble with lists on AMD64 systems [1][2] so be careful (to select passthrough, use the arrows and the tab key). With xine running from a terminal, play a DVD and kill xine in the terminal with ctrl-c. This (on my system, at least) will disable all digital output from Suse (system sounds, amarok, aplay, internet videos etc). I did some tests and managed to fix the problem (three consecutive times) by going to yast -> hardware -> sound, deleting the soundcard and letting yast automatically configure it again. On another fresh installation, though, this didn’t work. The only different thing I can think of why is this is because I killed xine with ctrl-c twice in a row. I’m about to confirm this on the other installation (the one I could restore). Machine: AMD 64 3200+, Soundblaster Live! soundcard (appears in yast as “CT4760 SBLive!”). Symptoms: No sound from the digital output except Dolby Digital or DTS (for example, DVDs with 5.1 sound) and using aplay -Dplug:spdif with a WAV file.
